USS Arizona lies beneath the waters of Pearl Harbor as visitors stream aboard the USS Arizona Memorial in 2002 |
|
The USS Arizona Reunion Association was started in 1976 by a small group of shipmates who had served aboard BB39 from the time it was commissioned in 1916 to when it was destroyed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941. The shipmates have met in Tucson, Arizona every year since then, except for pilgrimages to the USS Arizona Memorial every five years, a tradition that began in 1981. At the 2007 Tucson Reunion, members present voted to hold the 2008 Reunion in Hawaii! If you would like to attend the Reunion in Honolulu Dec. 2-8, 2008, contact Reunion Coordinator Ruth Campbell for information. We'll post information here as it becomes available. We anticipate that a number of Shipmates and Survivors from the Dec. 7 attack will make the trip, along with family members and friends. The Association is open to Shipmates who served aboard the USS Arizona, their direct relatives, and members of the general public who have an interest in preserving the memory of the Ship and Shipmates who served aboard her. Contact Membership Chair Jo Plass for an application. Cost is just $15 a year. |
